Personality: "Variety is the spice of life," would be a phrase you would hear from the audacious Escariet. A self-proclaimed "Curio Seeker", she rarely remains idle for long. Though she prefers working alone when seeking out relics and artifacts, she is not particularly standoff-ish and enjoys the company of those with a good story to tell.

She possess great social decorum, even when the situation is not something she is particularly fond of. She is excellent at keeping secrets and masking her true feelings beneath an aloof demeanor.

Her past as an Expurgator guarantees that she also has secrets and stories to swap with others. Many would attest that she is a good storyteller and public speaker; exuding a charisma that easily captivates spectators.

To strangers one-on-one, she might appear intimidating and judgmental, and although the stigma of the snobbish Elezen surrounds her, she is open minded and always ready to learn something new. When it comes to her interests, she is unrelenting. Escariet is willing to do (almost) whatever it takes to get what she wants. Her ability to negotiate is outstanding, but this tends to be due to her blinding herself to the morally unscrupulous ramifications of certain negotiations.

A selfish streak tends to run through her at her worst. Be it related to her goals, self preservation or advice, she is her number one priority. That is not to say that she doesn't or can't care about other people, but they are certainly second to herself.

Uniquely, and with no real explanation to her, she finds herself falling into a deep sleep for long periods of time. Upon her reawakening each time, she usually must work hard to reacclimate and continue any semblance of a life. She has been known to employ many different bodyguards throughout her time asleep.

story

Escariet's origins are a point of contention. She seemed to have just appeared one day, and often will disappear for long periods as well.

It is rather unknown if she was born in Ishgard to an Elezen and Hyur or if she merely just took this form when arriving on this star. Either way, her childhood is seeped in mystery.

Often she simply says her parents were of a lesser noble house and were slain in the Dragonsong war for sympathizing with dragons. Yet her knowledge seems to betray something more.

With her parents "slain", her house was stripped of title and status, and the young girl was left to freeze in bowls of Ishgard. It was by sheer chance that a few kind and selfless people of the Brume took her in, raising her alongside other outcasted, orphaned, or halfbreed children.

A Realm reborn

It was when she was of schooling age that she heard whispers of Her Holy Body of Decency, an extremely secret sector within the Church. Members of this sector, called "expurgators", lived imprisoned "in the bowels of the Holy See", guarded by "watchmen". The expurgators memorized information too sensitive to be written down, passing it down orally to new expurgators and each new Archbishop. Rumor had it that lowborn orphans who graduated with high marks at the seminary were selected for the expurgators, so that there would be no families that would come looking for them. Escariet felt this would be the perfect way to learn more about this world and the reasons she might keep the odd sleeping and waking cycle.

She poured herself into her studies, aiming to be selected as an expurgator; fitting their qualifications of academic achievement and lack of a family, as such, she was selected and indoctrinated. It was here that she learned of the true nature of Ishgard’s history.

Heavensward

She assists the heretics that infiltrate the Foundation and begin to set fires, but is taken aback by Ysayle’s command to retreat. She was unaware that the Heaven’s Ward and the Archbishop had allowed them entrance to sow the seeds of fear and unrest. She later learns this and feels foolish.

Escariet helps Hilda’s Watch spread rumors of heretics to help lead noble house soldiers out of the city. When Aymeric makes the history of Ishgard public, the expurgators are defunct, as there is no need of them any longer. Escariet flees to Dravania to avoid execution as the Temple Knights are trying to prevent any other secrets from being revealed.

The Dragonsong War draws to a close, and Knights Templar are mostly defeated. The new Knights set their sights on other types of “heretics” and relations between elezen and dragon kind begin to repair. Escariet returns to Ishgard, and is happy to finally see a time of peace.

Stormsblood - ShadowBringers

Using the secrets learned from her time as an expurgator, Escariet travels with the goal of collecting rare relics and items in hopes of putting them on display in a museum one day. She takes particular interest in things with ties to dragons, but will often seek out anything rare.

During her travels she seemed to have been taken by a mysterious affliction that puts her to sleep for long periods of time; as if a hibernation or a sleeping curse. Traveling to many healers, they assured her that she is under no such curse...As such she continues to try and find answers to why she will inexplicably slumber for varying amounts of time.

To protect herself during these times, she employs bodyguards to look after her.

WoL timeline

Much of her story remains the same, however Escariet's echo did not awaken until the events of Heavensward. At that point, her path follows the events of the game, though she is still interested in finding out why she essentially is narcoleptic... while simultaneously trying to save the star.

You can call me Eili, I am 31, female and have been playing MMO's and roleplaying for a great number of years.

I am on Hyperion/Primal Datacenter but don't mind visiting worlds for roleplay. However, I prefer play-by-post (forum/discord etc) over in game play. I am on Pacific Standard Time and have a full-time job, so it is easier to work around my schedule that way.

I am NOT interested in ERP. Romantic plots are fine, as are mature, dark/violent, deep plots. I tend to like things on the more serious and long-term side, but I am open if someone has an idea. I also prefer dice rolls for combat.
